I designed the Fan Bag while waiting for completion of the international adoption of my daughter, Sofia. She was born in Hunan, China, but somehow I knew she belonged with me. This handbag, the shape of an open fan, honors the cultural importance of the fan throughout Chinese history as a symbol of happiness and union, art and elegance. Funny, my daughter, who has grown up in the United States and in Bali, Indonesia, has an affinity for fans!

The Fan Bag has a wooden base and handles, hand-carved in a small Balinese village. The body is raw dupioni silk from India. A special knot with dangling beads on the zipper-pull symbolizes love and friendship.
